Termites in New Jersey: Your Questions Answered
These are real questions New Jersey homeowners, buyers and sellers ask about termites.
- Swarms usually happen March to May on warm days after rain
- Mud tubes on the foundation are the most common sign
- Treat first, then repair damaged wood
- WDI and VA inspections for home sales
How do I know if I have termites?
Look for mud tubes on foundation walls, swarmers or shed wings near windows in spring, and hollow or soft wood. See termite mud tubes and termite wings in the house.
Are these flying ants or termite swarmers?
Termite swarmers have straight bodies, straight antennae and two pairs of equal-length wings; flying ants have pinched waists, bent antennae and uneven wings. See flying ants vs. termite swarmers.
How much does termite treatment cost in New Jersey?
It depends on the size of the home, the type of treatment and how much of the foundation needs treating. See termite treatment cost in New Jersey or request a free quote.
Is bait or liquid termite treatment better?
Both work; the right choice depends on the house. Liquid treatment creates a barrier in the soil, while bait systems wipe out the colony over time. See Sentricon vs. liquid treatment.
Do I need a termite inspection to sell my house?
Many lenders, including VA loans, require a wood-destroying insect (WDI) inspection. See VA termite inspection and WDI report.
