Why North Jersey homes get wildlife inside

Older homes, mature trees and dense neighborhoods give animals easy ways onto roofs and into attics, chimneys and crawl spaces. Removing the animal is only half the job. Here are three common situations.

Silver Bullet raccoon removal job in Garfield, NJ
Raccoons

Raccoons in attics and chimneys

  • Heavy thumping or walking sounds at night
  • Torn soffits, roof vents or shingles
  • Droppings and a strong smell in the attic

Raccoons are strong enough to pull open weak soffits and vents, and they often use attics and chimneys to raise their young. We remove them humanely, then seal and reinforce the opening.

Squirrels

Squirrels at the roofline

  • Scurrying in the ceiling in the early morning
  • Chewed holes at roof edges and fascia
  • Torn insulation and chewed wires

Squirrels chew their way in at roof edges and gaps by gutters, then shred insulation and gnaw on wiring. One-way doors let them out, and we close the gap so they can't chew back in.

Bats

Bats in attics and walls

  • Bats seen leaving the roofline at dusk
  • Small dark droppings (guano) under a gap
  • A bat inside the living space

Bats squeeze through very small gaps at soffits, ridges and roof returns and roost in attics and wall voids. We exclude them with one-way devices, timed so no flightless pups are in the roost (early to mid summer) and following New Jersey wildlife guidance, then seal the gaps and clean up the guano.

Which animal do you have?

Each animal causes different damage and needs a different removal plan. We handle all of these.

Don't seal the hole yourself while the animal is inside. Trapped animals chew new holes, and young left behind in an attic or under a deck cause bigger problems. Call us first. Bat in the living space? Don't touch it with bare hands. If anyone had contact with it, or it was found in a room where someone was sleeping, contact your doctor or local health department about possible rabies exposure.

Wildlife in New Jersey, season by season

🌱

Spring

Raccoons and squirrels have their young in attics and chimneys, and bats return to roosts. Plan removal around the young.

☀️

Summer

Skunks and opossums settle under decks and sheds, and snakes find gaps low on the house. Bat pups can't fly yet, so bat exclusion waits until they can.

🍂

Fall

Squirrels, mice and rats look for warm attics and walls. A good time to seal the house before winter.

❄️

Winter

Animals already inside stay put. Noises at night and droppings in the attic are signs to call before spring babies arrive.

Property managers & businesses

Birds in vents, raccoons on a roof or rodents in a building affect tenants, customers and staff. We handle wildlife for multi-unit buildings and commercial properties. See commercial pest control.

What does wildlife removal cost?

It depends on the animal, how many entry points need sealing, how high the work is and how much cleanup or repair is needed. We give a free quote and tell you the price before any work starts. See how much an exterminator costs in NJ.
