How do I find good pest control in New Jersey?
Good pest control in New Jersey starts with a licensed exterminator who identifies the pest correctly, finds how it's getting in, and explains the plan and price before treating. Ask for the company's NJ pesticide license number, what follow-up or guarantee comes with the service, and whether they seal entry points instead of only spraying. Silver Bullet Pest Control is licensed (NJ License 90568B), based in Garfield, and serves Bergen, Passaic, Essex and Hudson counties. Call or text 973-510-2585.

How often do I need pest control: one-time or regular service?
It depends on the pest and the building. Here's how we usually advise New Jersey customers:
| One-time treatment | Regular service (monthly or quarterly) | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | A single problem: one wasp nest, mice that got in this fall, a bed bug case | Ongoing pressure: ants every spring, older multi-family homes, restaurants, apartment buildings |
| What you get | Treatment of that pest, with the follow-up that comes with that service | Scheduled visits through the year, prevention, and callbacks between visits |
| Guarantee | Depends on the service β for example, roach treatment has a 90-day warranty and mouse service includes 90 days of coverage | Regular service comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee |
| Good to know | Fixing the cause (gaps, moisture) matters as much as the treatment | Usually costs less over a year than repeated emergency calls |
Details on plans: monthly and quarterly pest control and all-season protection.
What happens during a pest control visit?
We listen first
What you've seen, where, when and for how long. Photos help. We ask about kids, pets and anyone with health concerns.
Inspection
Inside and out β kitchen, bathrooms, basement, garage, attic access, foundation, roofline and yard β to find the pest, the food and water source, and the way in.
A clear plan and price
We explain what we'll treat, with what kind of method, what you need to do, and what follow-up is included.
Treatment and sealing
Targeted treatment where the pests live and travel, plus sealing of entry points when that's part of the job. See entry point sealing.
Follow-up
We check back as the service calls for, and you can call or text us between visits.
Is pest control safe for kids and pets?
Yes, when it's done by a licensed applicator who follows the product label and targets the treatment. Modern pest control relies much less on spraying whole rooms than people expect. For example:
- Roaches: our method is gel bait placed in cracks and hinges plus an insect growth regulator (IGR), with a follow-up visit β not a fog through the apartment.
- Mice and rats: traps inside where kids and pets can't reach, and locked, tamper-resistant stations outside where they make sense.
- Bed bugs: heat treatment is available, which uses heat instead of products to kill bugs and eggs.
- Wildlife: squirrels, raccoons and bats are handled with removal and exclusion, not poison.
We'll tell you how long to keep kids and pets out of a treated area, if at all. Tell us about fish tanks, birds, pregnancies or anyone with asthma so we can plan around them. Interested in lower-impact options? See our natural and organic pest control page and ask what fits your home.
How much does pest control cost in New Jersey?
The honest answer is that it depends on the pest and the property. Quotes are free. These are the biggest factors:
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| The pest | A wasp nest, a roach problem, termites and squirrels in the attic are very different jobs |
| How big the problem is | A few mice caught early costs less than months of activity throughout the house |
| The building | Single-family house vs. two-family, apartment building, restaurant or warehouse |
| Entry points and repairs | Sealing gaps, replacing vents or repairing damage adds work but stops repeat problems |
| One-time vs. regular service | Regular plans spread the cost and include callbacks between visits |
Confirmed prices we can share: mosquito treatment starts from $95 plus tax, and pigeon removal runs $400 to $1,000. Everything else is quoted after we see the job. Some pest-specific cost guides: ant exterminator cost and roach treatment cost.
How to choose an exterminator in New Jersey
Ask for the license number
Pesticide applicator businesses in New Jersey are licensed by the state. Ours is NJ License 90568B. Wildlife work needs its own state licensing β we're licensed by the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife.
Expect an inspection
A good exterminator looks before they spray, and tells you what the pest is and how it's getting in.
Get the plan and the guarantee in plain words
What's being treated, how many visits, what follow-up or warranty comes with it, and what you need to do.
Look for prevention
Sealing gaps and fixing conditions keeps pests from coming back. Spraying alone usually means another call next season.
Reviews matter too. We have 4.9 stars on Google and over 15 years of experience.
Renters and landlords: who handles pest control?
In many New Jersey rentals, especially multi-family buildings, the owner is generally expected to deal with infestations, while tenants are expected to keep units clean and report problems quickly. But the details depend on the lease, the type of building and local rules, which can change and differ by town. Check with your town's code enforcement office or the NJ Department of Community Affairs for your situation.
Tenants: report pests in writing with photos and dates. Landlords: treating the whole building β basement, trash area and neighboring units β usually solves it faster and cheaper than one unit at a time. Read our landlord vs. tenant pest control guide and see our apartment building programs.
Pest control for restaurants, stores and warehouses

Restaurants, delis and bakeries
- Roaches under equipment and near drains
- Mice and rats near deliveries and dumpsters
- Health inspection pressure
Local health inspections in New Jersey rate food businesses, and pests are one of the fastest ways to a bad result. We schedule around your hours and keep a written record of every visit.

Warehouses and loading docks
- Rodents through dock doors
- Birds nesting in rafters
- Stored-product pests in pallets
Big doors, pallets and long walls give rodents and birds plenty of ways in. We focus on doors, dock seals and the building perimeter.

Apartment buildings and offices
- Roaches traveling through shared walls
- Mice in basements and trash rooms
- Bed bugs between units
Building-wide programs stop pests moving from unit to unit. We work with owners, managers and supers on a schedule that fits tenants.

Pest Control Questions We Hear in New Jersey
How often should I get pest control in New Jersey?
For most single-family homes with no ongoing problem, a treatment when a pest shows up is enough. Homes with yearly ant, roach or rodent problems, older multi-family buildings, and restaurants usually do better with monthly or quarterly service, which covers prevention and callbacks between visits. Regular service comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
How much does an exterminator cost in NJ?
It depends on the pest, the size of the problem, the type of building and whether sealing or repairs are needed, so we give a free quote after seeing the job. A couple of confirmed prices: mosquito treatment starts from $95 plus tax, and pigeon removal runs $400 to $1,000. Call or text 973-510-2585.
Is pest control safe for pets?
Yes, when a licensed applicator uses targeted methods and follows the label. We use gel baits in cracks, traps and locked stations out of reach, and treatments aimed where pests live rather than across open floors. We'll tell you if pets need to stay out of an area and for how long. Tell us about fish tanks and birds ahead of time.
Do I need to leave the house during pest control?
Usually not. For most roach, ant and rodent services you can stay home, and we'll tell you if a specific room should be kept clear for a while. Bed bug heat treatment is the main exception: you'll be out of the home while the rooms are heated.
How long does it take for pest control to work?
It depends on the pest. Roach gel bait and IGR work over days to a couple of weeks, with a follow-up visit. Mice usually drop off in the first week or two once traps are set and gaps are sealed. Wasp nests are usually inactive within a day. Seeing a few pests right after treatment is normal.
Can I do pest control myself?
For small, simple problems, sometimes. A few ants or one mouse can be handled with the right bait or trap. Store sprays and foggers often make roaches and bed bugs worse by scattering them, and wildlife, termites and nests in walls need professional handling. If DIY hasn't worked within two or three weeks, call.
Do exterminators handle squirrels, raccoons and bats?
We do. Wildlife work in New Jersey needs separate state licensing, and we're licensed by the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife. We remove animals, seal entry points, and do odor control, HEPA cleanup, insulation replacement and acoustic bat surveys ourselves.
What's the best time of year for pest control?
Prevention works best just before each pest's season: termites and ants in early spring, wasps in spring before nests grow, mosquitoes in late spring, and rodent-proofing in late summer and early fall before mice move in. Roaches and bed bugs are year-round, so treat them when you see them.
Do you offer same-day pest control?
Same-day visits are often available, especially in Bergen, Passaic, Essex and Hudson counties near our base in Garfield. Call or text early in the day. For towns we serve farther out in Morris and Union counties, visits are usually scheduled ahead.
Do you work with landlords and businesses?
Yes. We work with landlords, property managers, restaurants, stores and warehouses on one-time jobs and regular programs, scheduled around tenants and business hours, with a written record of each visit for inspections and files. For multi-family buildings we look at the whole building, not just the unit that called.
Are you licensed to do pest control in New Jersey?
We hold NJ pesticide applicator business License 90568B and are licensed by the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife for wildlife work, with over 15 years of experience. Ask us for any documents your building or business needs before we start.
