Who handles squirrel removal in Ridgefield Park, NJ?

Squirrel removal in Ridgefield Park NJ: close-set homes, shared problems
Ridgefield Park is a compact village. Many homes are older, sit on small lots close to their neighbors, and quite a few are two-families. That layout changes how squirrels and raccoons behave:
- Utility lines as highways. Overhead power, cable and phone lines run along most blocks, and squirrels use them to cross from tree to house to house without touching the ground.
- Roofs only a jump apart. When houses are this close, a squirrel pushed out of one attic often tries the house next door. Sealing well matters more than anywhere.
- Porches, porch roofs and detached garages. Older homes often have a front porch, a flat porch roof under an upstairs window, and a garage out back, all easy places for a raccoon to climb or den.
- Water on both sides. The Hackensack River runs along the village's western edge and Overpeck Creek and part of Overpeck County Park are on the other side. Raccoons do well along waterways and wander into the blocks nearby at night.
Busy roads like Route 46 and the Turnpike pass through, but the neighborhoods are full of mature trees, and that's where the squirrels live.
What you're hearing, what it probably is, and what to do today
| You notice | Probably | Do this today |
|---|---|---|
| Scurrying overhead at sunrise and before dusk | Gray squirrels | Watch the roofline in the morning to spot the hole |
| Heavy steps or thumps late at night | Raccoon | Keep pets in and trash lids tight; don't go into the attic |
| Squeaks or chirps in one spot | Babies | Don't block any hole; call us first |
| Something living under the porch | Raccoon (sometimes a skunk or groundhog) | Keep kids and pets away from the opening |
| A rotten smell in one room | A dead animal in a wall or ceiling | Call us for dead animal removal |
| Light scratching inside walls all night | Mice or rats | See our mouse and rat control |

How we get squirrels and raccoons out, step by step
Inspect roof, porch and attic
Roof edges, soffits, vents, the chimney, porch roofs, the crawl space under the porch, and the attic for nests, young and damage.
Seal everything but the main entry
Secondary gaps get closed with chew-resistant materials, so the animals are left with one way out.
Install a one-way door
The animals leave to feed and can't come back in. They go on their own; we don't trap and haul them away.
Close it, repair it, clean it
Once it's quiet, the one-way door comes off, the opening is sealed for good, and we repair wood and clean the attic if needed.
How the device works: one-way door squirrel exclusion. Our full guide: squirrel removal, exclusion and damage repair.
Raccoon removal in Ridgefield Park NJ: porches, sheds and garages
Not every raccoon is in the attic. In a village of older homes, a lot of them live underneath things: front porches, back stoops, sheds and detached garages. These spots are dark, dry and close to trash cans.
For a raccoon under a porch or shed, the plan is the same idea as the attic: a one-way door on the opening the raccoon uses, so it leaves on its own. Once it's gone, we install a buried mesh barrier around the base, an L-shaped skirt that goes down and out underground, so it can't dig back in.
If the raccoon is up top instead, it's usually on a porch roof or climbing a downspout to reach a soffit or vent. Raccoons are strong enough to tear vents and soffit panels open, so we use heavy materials when we seal and repair. Raccoons can also den in uncapped chimneys; we install chimney caps once they're out.
Keep your distance. Raccoons can carry rabies, and their droppings can carry roundworm eggs. Don't try to grab, corner or feed one.

What our wildlife work looks like

Finding the hole
- Chewed soffit corners
- Gaps where the roof meets a dormer or porch
- Torn vent screens
Squirrels chew a round entry high on the house. On close-set homes we also check the sides facing the neighbors, which are easy to miss from the street.

Exclusion that holds
- One-way door on the main entry
- Reinforced vent and soffit openings
- Chimney caps
A raccoon will test a weak repair. The materials and fasteners we use are chosen to hold up against a determined animal.

Insulation and droppings
- Flattened, stained insulation
- Nests and latrine spots
- Odor in the upstairs rooms
After the animals are out, soiled insulation and droppings come out with HEPA cleanup, and fresh insulation goes back in where needed.
Two-families and rental homes
In a two-family house, the animal is usually in one attic or one wall, but both units hear it. Tenants upstairs hear the attic; the downstairs family hears the walls and ceiling. The fix is for the whole building, not one apartment.
- Owners: we inspect the whole roof and attic, explain what we found, and give you one estimate for the building.
- Tenants: tell your landlord in writing, with the times you hear the noise and any photos. Our landlord vs. tenant guide covers the basics, though rules can differ by building and town.
- Access: attic access is often through one unit, so we schedule a time that works for everyone.
Repair, cleanup and dead animal removal
Wood repair
We repair chewed soffits, fascia and trim ourselves once the animals are out.
HEPA cleanup
Nests, droppings and latrines are removed, the attic is cleaned and the odor is treated.
Dead animals
We remove dead animals from attics, walls and yards, and find out how they got in.
Vent and chimney guards
Vent covers and chimney caps keep the openings working but closed to animals.
See dead animal removal, wildlife damage repair and raccoon latrine cleanup.
What affects your estimate
Estimates are free and given after we see the house. These make the biggest difference:
| Factor | Simpler job | Bigger job |
|---|---|---|
| Animal | One squirrel hole | A raccoon that tore open the roof |
| Openings | One or two gaps | A whole roofline of weak spots |
| Where it lives | Attic only | Attic plus porch, shed or chimney |
| Young | None | A litter that changes timing |
| Cleanup | Little or none | Insulation replacement, latrine cleanup, wood repair |

Ridgefield Park Squirrel & Raccoon Questions
How much does squirrel removal cost in Ridgefield Park?
It depends on the animal, how many openings need sealing, whether there are young, and the cleanup and repair needed. Estimates are free; our squirrel removal cost page explains each factor.
How long does squirrel or raccoon removal take?
Sealing and the one-way door usually take one visit. Most animals leave within a few days, and then we return to close the last opening.
Do you trap squirrels and raccoons?
No. One-way doors let the animals leave on their own, and the openings are sealed behind them. We don't trap and haul animals away.
What about babies in the attic?
We check for young before sealing anything and never block an occupied nest. The timing is planned so the babies leave with their mother.
Can you get a raccoon out from under my porch?
Yes. We use a one-way door on its opening, and once it's gone we install a buried mesh barrier so it can't dig back under.
Do you remove dead animals?
Yes. We remove dead animals from attics, walls and yards, clean the area and treat the smell.
Does insurance cover squirrel or raccoon damage?
It depends on your homeowner's policy. Some cover certain animal damage and many exclude it, so ask your insurer and photograph the damage first.
Will you fix the holes and damaged trim?
Yes. We repair chewed soffits, fascia and trim ourselves and add vent covers and chimney caps.
I rent the upstairs unit. Can I call you?
Yes, call or text us with what you're hearing. The work itself usually needs the owner's OK, so let your landlord know in writing too.
How far are you from Ridgefield Park?
We're based in Garfield, usually about 15 to 20 minutes away depending on traffic. Same-day appointments are often available.
Are you licensed?
Yes. Licensed by the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife for wildlife work, NJ License 90568B, over 15 years of experience.
