Who does bat removal in Wallington, NJ?

Silver Bullet Pest Control does bat removal in Wallington, NJ: we're a licensed New Jersey pest control and wildlife company (NJ License 90568B, also licensed by the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife) based next door in Garfield; call or text 973-510-2585 for a free estimate, and hablamos espaΓ±ol. We find every gap bats use, install one-way exclusion devices so they leave on their own, seal the house once they're gone, and clean up the guano. Bats are never trapped and hauled away, and exclusion is timed around the summer months when pups can't fly yet.

Why bats move into Wallington houses

Bats eat flying insects, and Wallington sits between two of their favorite hunting grounds: the Passaic River on the west side of town and the Saddle River on the east. On summer evenings they feed over the water and the lights along the streets, then look for a warm, dark, quiet place to spend the day.

The older two-family homes that fill most Wallington blocks give them plenty of choices:

  • Gable vents and attic louvers with torn or missing screens.
  • Gaps where the roof meets the siding, often widened after decades of paint and patch jobs.
  • Loose fascia and soffit boards and the corners where an addition joins the original house.
  • Chimneys without a cap, and gaps in the flashing around them.
  • Detached garages with open eaves, which some bats use as a night roost.

A bat only needs a gap about the width of your thumb. In a neighborhood where houses stand a few feet apart, the opening is often on the side facing the neighbor, where nobody looks. In North Jersey homes the bat we find most is the big brown bat, which handles cold well and sometimes stays in walls and attics into the winter.

Signs you have bats, not squirrels or mice

Wallington homeowners often hear something in the attic and assume it's a squirrel. These clues point to bats:

What you noticeWhat it means
Scratching or squeaking just after sunsetBats waking up and crawling toward the exit
Dark droppings under a vent, on a windowsill or on the porchBat guano; it crumbles into dust with shiny insect bits, unlike mouse droppings
Brown or greasy stains around a small gapBody oil from bats squeezing in and out
Bats flying out at dusk from one spot on the roofAn active exit; count them and tell us how many
Ammonia smell in an upstairs room or the atticGuano and urine building up
A bat in the living spaceAn opening between the attic or wall and your rooms

Not sure? Text a photo of the droppings. More detail in signs of bats in your attic and how bats get into a house.

When bat exclusion is allowed in New Jersey

Bats are protected, and New Jersey limits when they can be excluded so mothers aren't sealed away from their young. These are the windows we follow:

PeriodExclusion?Why
April 1–30AllowedBats are back, but pups aren't born yet
May 1–July 31Not allowedMaternity season: pups in the roost can't fly
August 1–October 15AllowedYoung bats can fly out with the adults
October 16–March 31Only after an acoustic surveySome bats stay through winter; the survey checks no bats are inside first

If you call in June, we can still inspect, plan the job and fix gaps where bats aren't using them, then exclude in August. We do the acoustic bat surveys ourselves. Read more about bat exclusion season in NJ.

Bat exclusion Wallington NJ: how our process works

1

Inspect the whole house

Roof line, vents, chimney, siding joints, soffits and the attic. We mark which gaps bats are using and which they could use next.

2

Check the timing

We confirm the date falls in an allowed window, or run an acoustic survey in the cold months.

3

Install one-way devices

At each active exit we put a one-way device. Bats crawl out at night to feed and can't get back in.

4

Seal everything else

We close the other gaps with materials made for the job, so they don't just move to the next opening.

5

Remove the devices and finish

Once the bats are gone, we take the devices down, seal those last openings and plan the cleanup.

The bats leave on their own and stay outside. That's the difference between real exclusion and catching a few bats. See bat removal vs. bat exclusion.

A bat in your living room or bedroom

A single bat inside the house is common in late summer, when young bats get lost. Here's what to do:

  • Don't touch it with bare hands, and keep kids and pets away.
  • If nobody was asleep in the room and no one touched it, close interior doors, open a window, turn off the lights, and let it find its way out.
  • If the bat was in a room with someone sleeping, a young child, or a person who can't say whether they were bitten, don't let it go. Keep the bat, and call your local health department right away about rabies testing. Ask your doctor what to do next.

One bat inside often means there's a colony in the attic or walls and a gap leading into your rooms. We'll inspect for both. More on bats in the house and rabies in NJ.

After the bats leave: cleanup and repairs

Our own crew handles the work that's left once the house is sealed:

🧹

Guano cleanup

HEPA vacuuming and removal of droppings from the attic, walls and soffits, with protective gear.

🏠

Insulation

We remove soiled attic insulation and replace it.

🌬️

Odor control

Treatment of stained areas to cut the ammonia smell that can drift into upstairs rooms.

πŸ”¨

Repairs

We repair soffits, fascia and trim and install chimney caps, so the openings stay closed.

Bat guano can carry fungal spores, so please don't sweep it up dry yourself. See bat guano odor and health risks.

Bat removal questions from Wallington

Who does bat removal in Wallington, NJ?

Silver Bullet Pest Control, licensed by the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife and holding NJ License 90568B, based next door in Garfield. Call or text 973-510-2585 for a free estimate.

Can you remove bats in June or July?

Not by exclusion. May 1 through July 31 is maternity season in New Jersey and pups can't fly. We can inspect, plan and seal unused gaps, then exclude in August.

Do you trap the bats and take them away?

No. We use one-way devices so bats leave on their own at night and can't get back in. Then we seal the house.

How do I know it's bats and not squirrels?

Bats are noisy around sunset and leave crumbly droppings with shiny insect bits. Squirrels are busy in the morning and chew wood. Text us a photo of the droppings.

A bat was in my kid's room overnight. What do I do?

Don't release it. Keep the bat if you can do it safely, and call your local health department about rabies testing. Then call us to find how it got in.

How long does bat exclusion take?

The devices usually stay up for several nights to a week or more, depending on weather and the colony. Then we come back to remove them and finish sealing.

Will the bats just move into my neighbor's house?

They may look for a new roost nearby. That's why we seal every gap on your house, not just the one they used. With houses so close, telling your neighbor is a good idea.

Is bat guano dangerous?

It can carry fungal spores, especially when it's dry and stirred up. Don't sweep it yourself. We remove it with HEPA equipment and protective gear.

Do you replace the attic insulation?

Yes. If guano soaked into the insulation, we remove it and put in new insulation, and treat the odor.

Can you do bat removal in winter?

Only after an acoustic survey shows no bats are inside. Some big brown bats stay in houses all winter, so we check first.

How much does bat removal cost?

It depends on the number of gaps, roof height, colony size, cleanup and repairs. We inspect and give you a free estimate.
