How do you get rid of cockroaches for good?

To get rid of cockroaches for good, you have to kill the hidden breeding colony with targeted gel baits, dust in wall voids and a growth regulator that stops the young from maturing, then cut off the water, food and cracks that let them come back.

Store-bought sprays mostly kill the roaches you can see and can scatter the rest deeper into walls. A licensed exterminator inspects first, identifies which species you have, and treats where they actually live — behind the fridge and stove, under sinks, inside cabinet hinges and along plumbing lines.

Why Roaches Move Into North Jersey Homes & Businesses

Much of Passaic and Bergen County is older multi-family housing, two-families and apartment buildings with shared walls and shared plumbing. Roaches travel through those gaps from unit to unit, so one neighbor's problem quickly becomes yours.

Restaurants, delis and bodegas face the same pressure from deliveries, cardboard boxes and warm kitchen equipment. Here are the three roaches we deal with most.

Close-up of a cockroach on a white background
German Cockroach — kitchens & bathrooms
  • Small tan roaches, about 1/2 inch, with two dark stripes behind the head
  • Pepper-like droppings in cabinets and drawers
  • Seen in daylight — a sign of a heavy infestation

The most common indoor roach in New Jersey. It breeds fast, lives near warmth and moisture, and almost always needs a professional baiting program plus a follow-up visit.

Group of dead cockroaches on a white background
American Cockroach — basements & drains
  • Large reddish-brown roach, up to 1.5 inches or more
  • Shows up near floor drains, boiler rooms and sewer lines
  • Can fly short distances in warm weather

Often called a 'water bug.' It usually comes up from sewers and drains, so treatment focuses on basements, drain areas and the outside of the building.

Oriental cockroach (Blatta orientalis), dark brown to black
Oriental Cockroach — damp crawl spaces
  • Shiny dark brown to black, about 1 inch long
  • Slow-moving, found on basement floors and near leaks
  • Musty odor in damp areas

Loves cool, wet places like crawl spaces, mulch beds and leaky basements. Fixing moisture is a big part of keeping them out after treatment.

What a Visit Looks Like

1

Inspection

We find out which roach you have and where it's breeding — appliances, cabinets, plumbing, basement and outside.

2

Targeted treatment

Gel baits, crack-and-crevice treatment and a growth regulator placed where roaches live, not sprayed across open rooms.

3

Seal & advise

We point out the leaks, gaps and clutter feeding the problem and show you what to fix.

4

Follow-up

Heavy or German roach infestations usually need a follow-up visit to catch newly hatched roaches.

Roach Activity Through the Year

🌱 Spring

Outdoor roaches become active again and start showing up near basement doors and drains.

☀️ Summer

Peak season. Heat and humidity speed up breeding, and American roaches come up from sewers.

🍂 Fall

Cooler nights push outdoor roaches toward warm basements, garages and crawl spaces.

❄️ Winter

German roaches keep breeding indoors all year because they live in heated kitchens.

Restaurants, Businesses & Landlords

Roaches in a food business can mean failed health inspections and bad reviews. In a rental building, they spread through shared walls and plumbing from one unit to the next.

  • Treatment of whole buildings, not just one unit
  • Scheduled service for restaurants and food businesses
  • Written service records after each visit

Tell us about your property and we'll set up a plan that fits your schedule.

How Much Does Roach Control Cost?

Every job is different, so we quote after we know what we're dealing with. The price depends on:

  • Which roach species you have
  • How big the infestation is
  • Size and type of property (home, apartment, restaurant)
  • Whether follow-up visits or ongoing service are needed

Cockroach Control FAQ

How do I know if I have a roach infestation?

Look for droppings that look like pepper or coffee grounds, egg cases, a musty smell, and roaches out in the daytime. Seeing roaches during the day usually means the infestation is already large.

Can I get rid of German roaches myself?

Small problems can sometimes be controlled with baits, but German roaches breed so quickly that most infestations need professional treatment. Sprays from the store can also scatter them deeper into walls.

Are roach treatments safe for kids and pets?

We use targeted baits and crack-and-crevice treatments placed where roaches hide, and we follow all label directions. We will tell you how to prepare and when it's safe to use treated areas.

How many visits does it take?

It depends on the species and how bad the problem is. Heavy infestations, especially German roaches, usually need at least one follow-up visit.

Do you treat restaurants and apartment buildings?

Yes. We service restaurants, food businesses and multi-unit buildings in Passaic, Bergen and Morris County.
